My Top Five Anime's of The 1980's

Updated: May 25, 2020

Whether it's 1980 or 2020 it seems like the style never wears out and the same could be said about anime it just depends on who you're talking it to. So I decided to do a list of My Top 5 anime's of the 1980's.

5. Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta (1985)

Really people will say number 5? Yeah when you think about it who's the main villian come on folks Char but all of a sudden he decides to be the good guy to help out once in his whole entirety of being an asshole!!!! But I digress this does overshadow the failures of Mobile Suit Gundam along with it's counterpart Space Runaway Ideon which was supposed to be the prequel to Zeta. So it does gives us a lot of meme worthy moments and a bucket ton of slaps and punches but the Gundams are pretty cool and worthy of that is the fact that it is one of the more highly rated Gundams fans seem to like so why not just for nostalgia's sake. Plus it's 35th anniversary wasn't that long ago so CHEERS TO YOU!!!!

4. Bubblegum Crisis (1987)

Ah yes big hair, super hairy rock and kick ass women kicking robots where the sun don't shine, this one's a classic OVA that gets overlooked due to the lack of clarity in storytelling but it does give us a look into the world if robots were disguised as normal people (OK BOOMER) for references. This one is worth the watch!!!

3. Fist of The North Star (Hokuto No Ken) (1984)

Martial Arts that can make people's body explode oh @#!$!!!!! Yeah this is just that brutal (The Movie is even more brutal) This classic Bruce Lee anime character is one of just many to come out of the testosterone macho era of the 80's. The fight scenes are some of the best I've seen and the kills are even more amazing than any other fighting anime in recent memory, when describing this anime only one phrase comes to mind: "OMAE WA MOU SHINDEIRU" (You're Already Dead).

2. City Hunter (1987)

What can I say other than a womanizing private eye who carries a .357 Magnum and is skilled at any choice of shot is a force to be reckoned with. This anime classic is filled with gaffs and goofs out the tons but the artwork and music to accompany it especially the timeless openings is one worth watching. (Did I mention that Jackie Chan made a movie about this as well)

1. Maison Ikkoku (1986)

Love is something we all want, and it is something that we seek. This classic Rom/Com from Takahashi Rumiko (Manga artist for Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura) Is a telling of two people one of status and one of not so status (Basically Rich and Working Middle Class). This one hits the park because of it's many twist and turns but one thing is certain love overcomes all.
